Career Guidance Infrastructure In schools
Ninety nine percent of schools in India don’t have career guidance Infrastructure and 93% of students are aware about only 7 careers. This clearly indicates there is an urgent need for career orientation programmes in schools. Career orientation should be treated as like teaching of any other subjects. It is very common thing that in the Indian context, because of lack of guidance, no matter how much talented the student is, one end up in wrong career choices . In these scenarios, the students with great deal of potential and aptitude in a particular field live a life of underutilisation.
The students at school should be exposed to different careers from 7th grade onwards and by 9th grade, they should take an aptitude test and it is on these basis that the Plus one stream should be selected .
Even if the students are good in science, languages, and are outstanding learners, but they would always opt for conventional courses such as engineering, medical, or law, and when it comes to choosing a profession, there is no discovery in the aspects of the career. One of the most important decisions of their lives is to choose a correct career path, but still, there is no seriousness towards that step, and even when they are serious about their career, they do not know what to do and where to go.
